I've been busy

Or at least it feels like I've been busy, as I've barely done any knitting lately.  I did knit on the plane on the way to see my little sister graduate from my alma mater.  I've been making some progress on the Cap Sleeved Top from Debbie Bliss' Pure Silk book.  The yarn is Cathay leftover from this (I bought way too much).

Other than that, there's nothing much to report.  Luckily Amanda tagged me so at least I have something (possibly) interesting to tell you!

Each person tagged gives 7 random facts about themselves. Those who are tagged need to write on their own blog those 7 facts as well as the rules of the game. You need to tag seven others and list their names on your blog. You have to leave those you plan on tagging a note in their comments so they know that they have been tagged and to read your blog.

Seven random things about me (that you probably don't know):

1.  I had my eyebrow pierced for a while in college.

2.  I absolutely hate to sweat.  Not a good thing when you live in a warm climate.  It also makes it difficult for me to exercise.

3.  I tend to be very impatient.  Somehow I can still knit (perhaps knitting is helping me become more patient).

4.  The texture of certain foods bother me, but not all of the time--I can't eat mushy bananas (ever), I can only sometimes eat yogurt (I went through a period of about 5 years when it made me gag), and sometimes if I swallow my pasta wrong it's ruined for me.  I think this is also why I don't like a lot of seafood.  Can you tell I'm a bit of a picky eater?

5.  I was totally a dog person until we got our kitties.  Now I love cats and dogs seem way too high-maintenance for me.

6.  I am easily embarrassed.  And I can even be embarrassed about being embarrassed, which makes me blush big time.

7.  I don't really watch much t.v. or many movies.  I might have a baseball game on in the background when I knit, but there are no shows that I regularly watch.  And it's not that I don't like any movies, it's just never been something I've gotten excited about.

I'm not tagging anyone--if you want to play, go for it!  Have a nice weekend everyone. :)

More Birthday Goodies

Thanks for all of the birthday wishes! (It was on the 2nd, in case you were wondering.)  In addition to the pretty silk yarn, I got some more goodies:

birthday roses
Lovely flowers from the hubby

birthday chocolate
A Trader Joe's fix from my friend in Illinois (I can't believe they don't have Trader Joe's in Texas yet!)

birthday yarn
Rowan Calmer in Laurel from Jannette's Rare Yarns

And for his birthday (four days before mine), my husband got this:

clavinet

Too bad we both have expensive hobbies.  At least now I don't feel so guilty when making yarn or fabric purchases.  Speaking of which:

fabric for skirt

I convinced Amy to go to High Fashion Fabrics with me even though she just went last week.  Well, there wasn't much convincing needed--she sort of suggested it. ;)  I don't know why I'd never been there before--it's fabulous!  I think I'll make a skirt with the new fabric purchase.

Spring in Houston

I had the afternoon off last Friday and the cold rainy weather hadn't blown in yet, so I took a walk around the neighborhood to enjoy the gorgeous day and to try to capture some signs of spring (really, it's already late spring in Houston).  I didn't do so well--I'm definitely not a photographer.  But here are a few that worked:

Does anyone know what this plant is?

rothko

Barnett Newman's sculpture "The Broken Obelisk" outside the Rothko Chapel

pomegranates

Pomegranate blossoms--these are in our yard but they don't do very well because they don't seem to get enough sun.  Too bad!

Knitting didn't get too much attention this weekend, but I did finish the Boobholder.  It's drying now and I'll get a picture as soon as I sew on the button.  I've also started the Ballet Camisole from Magknits in Shine Sport in Orchid--I'm loving this yarn.  A little splitty, but so so soft and a great color, I think.

I've also been planning for more spring/summer projects, including the Bonita Shirt from Interweave Knits Summer 2006:

Also in the plans?  The ever-popular Sahara and a few more knit tanks and tees--I love warm weather knits!
