Yummy Yarn

Happy (early) birthday to me!

Dance Yarn (100% Silk) custom dyed by The Sanguine Gryphon.  The color in the first picture is a bit more accurate.  I was hoping to use it to make Sahara, but I'm not sure it will be quite right for that.  However, it's still a fabulous deal and gorgeous yarn! I also gave in and ordered some Rowan Calmer to make the Phyllo Yoked Pullover from Knitting Nature.

And remember this?  I finally finished all of the pieces.

Now for the seaming and lining--I don't imagine it will be entirely finished for a while. ;)

Do I look like a ballerina?

I think nearly every little girl has a brief period of time when she dreams of growing up to be a ballerina.  Luckily I realized quickly that I am terribly uncoordinated and it would not be a good career choice for me.  But at least I can feel all pretty and feminine in my new pink(ish) Ballet Camisole.

finished ballet camisole

Pattern: Ballet Camisole
Yarn: 5 balls of Knit Picks Shine Sport in Orchid
Time to knit: April 5-24, 2007
Notes: I love this top.  The shaping is fabulous, the length is perfect, and the Shine Sport is super soft and comfortable.  The only change I made to the pattern was to omit the shaping on the outside of the straps.  I used one ply of the Shine to gather the neckline, but I may try to find some matching elastic like the pattern recommends.  Even with the crochet around the edges, the armholes still want to roll.  I thought about picking up stitches for an edging instead, but I don't think I'll bother.

Well, I'm off to Stitch n Bitch.  I hope to have some fabulous new yarn purchases to show off for you this weekend!

The weekend's over already?

It seems that I'm becoming a weekend-only blogger.  Oh well, what can you do?  At least I have a finished knit:

boobholder finished

Pattern: Boobholder/Minisweater from http://www.glampyreknits.com/
Yarn: Joann Sensations Dolcetto in Cream (I'm not sure they make that yarn anymore) frogged from this
Time to knit: Finished April 7, 2007 or so
Notes: I should have tried it on more frequently to get a more fitted shape, but it works well anyway.  It's nice and light and will be perfect for a cover up in over-air conditioned buildings.  You can see the loose fit here:

You can also see my new haircut.  I'm not so sure about it yet.

The Ballet Camisole is growing fast!  Stockinette in the round is a bit boring (and I know the progress pictures aren't thrilling either), but I love how quickly it's knitting up:

Hopefully I'll be able to stick with it and will have another FO shortly!

Spring in Houston

I had the afternoon off last Friday and the cold rainy weather hadn't blown in yet, so I took a walk around the neighborhood to enjoy the gorgeous day and to try to capture some signs of spring (really, it's already late spring in Houston).  I didn't do so well--I'm definitely not a photographer.  But here are a few that worked:

Does anyone know what this plant is?

pomegranates

Pomegranate blossoms--these are in our yard but they don't do very well because they don't seem to get enough sun.  Too bad!

Knitting didn't get too much attention this weekend, but I did finish the Boobholder.  It's drying now and I'll get a picture as soon as I sew on the button.  I've also started the Ballet Camisole from Magknits in Shine Sport in Orchid--I'm loving this yarn.  A little splitty, but so so soft and a great color, I think.

I've also been planning for more spring/summer projects, including the Bonita Shirt from Interweave Knits Summer 2006:

Also in the plans?  The ever-popular Sahara and a few more knit tanks and tees--I love warm weather knits!
