48 Things You Could Care Less About

Since I was chosen "most likely to respond" by Stacey, here goes:

1. FIRST NAME? Meredith

2. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? Nope

3. WHEN DID YOU LAST CRY? I tear up frequently, but I can't remember the last time I really cried.  It couldn't have been too long ago though.

4. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING? Sure

5. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCHMEAT? Honey Turkey

6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU? I think I'm a good friend, but I guess it depends on what I as the other person was like.  I'm sure some people don't like me. ;)

7. DO YOU HAVE A JOURNAL? I used to keep a journal until college.  Now I have this.

8. DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS? Yes

9. WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP? Nooooo, not my idea of a good time.

10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CEREAL? Honey Bunches of Oats

11. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF? I usually don't wear shoes with laces, but if I do I don't think I untie them.

12. DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG? Definitely not physically.  Mentally?  Sometimes.

13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR? Chocolate peanut butter.

14. SHOE SIZE? 10

5. RED OR PINK? Either will do.

16. WHAT IS THE LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF? I'm too quiet, especially around new people.  I think I'm better than I used to be, but I wish I could be more confident in large group situations.

17. WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST? My parents and sister--I wish that we lived closer to them.

18. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO SEND THIS BACK TO YOU? No, but you can post it on your blog.

19. WHAT COLOR PANTS, SHIRT AND SHOES ARE YOU WEARING? Jeans, white tee-shirt with an owl on it, blue flip flops.  Even though it's gotten cooler here, it's still flip flop weather.

20. LAST THING YOU ATE? Cereal

21. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW? Nothing, but earlier I was listening to a Borodin symphony we're playing in orchestra.

22. IF YOU WERE A CRAYON, WHAT COLOR WOULD YOU BE? Dark purple

23. FAVORITE SMELL? Smells of pine and cinnamon around Christmas time.

24. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE? My viola student--he called to cancel our lesson today.

25. THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE YOU ARE ATTRACTED TO? Eyes and smile.

26. DO YOU LIKE THE PERSON you stole THIS from? Of course!  I have a great SIL. :)

27. FAVORITE DRINK? Of the alcoholic variety?  I'm liking Fat Tire right now, but I don't know what my all-time favorite would be.

28. FAVORITE SPORT? College basketball.

29. EYE COLOR? Brown

30. HAT SIZE? No idea.  I don't often wear hats.

31. DO YOU WEAR CONTACTS? Yep

32. FAVORITE FOOD? My mom's lasagna

33. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS? Happy endings

Jacqueline was quite observant and saw that #34 is missing, so she added this question:

34.  IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD WHERE WOULD THAT BE?  Chicago

35. SUMMER OR WINTER? Winter, especially Houston winter--it's more like fall.

36. HUGS OR KISSES? Well, I'd say in general, hugs.

37. FAVORITE DESSERT? Any dessert is a good dessert.  I especially like warm chocolate chip cookies though.

38. WHO IS MOST LIKELY TO RESPOND? I think everyone's already done this but me!

39. LEAST LIKELY TO RESPOND? How should I know?

40. WHAT BOOKS ARE YOU READING? I started The Lord of the Rings series again, but am sort of stalled.

41. WHAT'S ON YOUR MOUSE Pad? A cartoon my MIL made for the husband--kind of hard to describe.  It's funny.  You'll have to take my word for it.

42. WHAT DID YOU WATCH LAST NIGHT ON TV? Nothing! There was a TV on at the bar but I wasn't really watching.

43. FAVORITE SOUNDS? Any of my favorite music, played loudly.  My cats purring.

44. ROLLING STONE OR BEATLES? Used to be Beatles, but I think I listened to them too much and now I'm a bit tired of them.  I like the Stones, and they remind me of my dad (we saw them in concert together!)

45. THE FURTHEST YOU'VE BEEN FROM HOME? I went to Germany in high school.

46. WHAT'S YOUR SPECIAL TALENT? I can play the viola somewhat well.  And knitting.

47. WHERE WERE YOU BORN? Wheaton, IL

48. WHO SENT THIS TO YOU? Stacey

Well, time to stop procrastinating and get to packing.  Whee!

Just Practicing

I finished part of the secret birthday present for my sister, and I've decided that it was just practice.  I'll start over for the real present.  Why?  Well, it's just not as perfect as I'd like.  It was my first time doing stranded knitting, and my tension isn't too great.  Also, my row gauge was off from the pattern and I didn't adjust properly.  And I made a few obvious (at least to me) mistakes.

I may not be around much in the next couple weeks--we're moving!  Yes, I know that we just moved. And we were supposed to be house sitting for two years.  Didn't quite work out that way.  It has been very nice here and it's going to be hard to downgrade to an apartment.  But on the plus side, our new place is two blocks from my office!  I can walk to work--something almost unheard of in Houston.

A Sleeveless Mermaid

Despite the fact that she has no sleeves, I'm very proud of my Mermaid so far:

And I'm sorry to say that the sleeves aren't even on the needles yet, because I've become obsessed with my sister's secret birthday present project.  I'm not sure if she reads this blog or not, but maybe I'll find a way to give you a little sneak peek without her seeing it soon. ;)

And here are my tiny hats for Caps to the Capital:

Odds and Ends

Well, I was hoping to have a fabulous Mermaid jacket body all done with the ends woven in and everything to show to you today.  Alas, I was so excited about being nearly done with the body that I missed the part where I needed to cast on 21 stitches for the collar and had to rip back about 10 rows.  Then I got distracted by other projects.  But I'm almost there!

While taking a little break from the jacket, I finished a few things:

medium_absorba_finished.jpg
Pattern: Absorba, the Great Bathmat from Mason-Dixon Knitting
Yarn: 3 strands of worsted weight cotton (Sugar & Cream and Lion Brand Kitchen Cotton)
Time to Complete: I don't remember!
Notes: Easy but still interesting--I like log cabin-ing!  I had hoped to make this rug sized but ran out of yarn so it'll be a regular old bathmat.  I could have bought more yarn, but as this was a stashbusting project that would kind of defeat the purpose.  And I was ready for it to be done.

Also done, with no picture, is a tiny hat for Caps to the Capital.  I'm planning on making a few more with stash yarns.

I got my beeeutiful yarn from Julie.  I love it!

It's fingering weight Bluefaced Leicester and she spun it just for me!  Wasn't her wheel fund idea clever?  And did you know that Julie and I went to the same high school?  Just not at the same time.

And, as a final random note, I joined the Fall Cable KAL.  I'm planning to make the Gathering Intentions sweater as well as some cable-y things for holiday presents.
